The Lakota Wolf Preserve

This past Sunday I went with Bergen County Camera to the Lakota Wolf Preserve.  The trip was a bit pricy, but absolutely worth the money.  Out in Columbia, New Jersey, the people at the site work year-round to feed and care for not just wolves, but foxes and bobcats as well.

On the bumpy ride up to the shooting area our guide told us that during Hurricane Sandy around a hundred trees were blown down, some damaging the fences keeping the wolves in.  Amazingly the trainers spent the night on top of the hill amidst the hurricane conditions making sure the wolves were safe and contained.

This was an amazing opportunity, getting to photograph these beautiful creatures in a near-natural habitat.  The morning light created several challenges, but allowed for some beautiful views of the animals.

The Central Park Zoo

Nothing particularly unique about these pictures, just a day trip to the Central Park Zoo.  I've always loved shooting animals, whether they're in the zoo or in the wild.

Photoshoot for "GRAVITY"

Today I took some publicity pictures for some good friends of mine who are producing a play called GRAVITY.  The show is described as a "story of a war torn world rule by and evil overlord and the four superheroes who band together to defeat her and save their planet."

I've performed with these folks before, in a show called ENTOMO, so I can say from personal experience that they know how to put on a show.  I'm very excited to continue working with them on this production - and to see the show itself, which promises to be mind-blowing as always.

Trying My Hand at HDR

After several years of trying, I've finally figured out how to make an HDR image (and by "figured out," I mean "downloaded a program that cranks them out with the push of a button).  Like a kid who can't put down his new toy, it's been hard to stop making HDR images.  Below is a gallery of images I've made in the past week or so.  I'm letting myself go a little nuts with these pictures now, trying to get the excitement out of my system before I make a bad habit of relying on HDR.  As cool as these pictures look, and as excited as I am to finally make them myself, I think it's important to keep the foundation of my work strictly journalistic.  Otherwise I'll start feeling more like Cary Elwes and his sell-out storm chasers with the fancy black SUV's than Bill Paxton and his ragtag bunch of purist storm chasers (thanks for the pop culture reference, Twister).

That being said, I am still very much a fan of HDR images, and I look forward to making more (in moderation) in the future.  I'll keep updating this post as a sort of HDR portfolio.  Hope you like - enjoy!
